The environment surrounds us, sustains us, and protects us. Likewise, we are responsible for protecting the environment as well. It’s a virtuous circle. We take what we need from nature and give back what we can.  

For example, we humans breathe in Oxygen and breathe out Carbon dioxide while trees breathe in the Carbon dioxide we exhale, and trees also give us the Oxygen we humans need to survive.  

Yes, it’s true that the earth has a complex ecosystem consisting of countless creatures responsible for various roles. But at its very core, there is a simple mechanism. Every single component of the ecosystem is dependent on the other components and in order to survive, we must take benefits from others while simultaneously helping and supporting the other components of the ecosystem as well. It’s like a give-and-take condition. 

This piece of writing won’t go deep into the debates on global warming or climate change. The goal of this writing is rather simple, which is to make you aware that how we are probably fighting one problem with another one.  

It’s pretty simple to observe that climate change results in an increase in temperature worldwide. But we can’t prevent this increase in temperature by simply increasing the activities that caused the actual increase in temperature.  

For example, in developing countries of Southeast Asia, people, in general, are installing more air conditioners to tackle the increased temperature. But air conditioners are one of the leading household appliances that consume excessive amounts of electricity. And guess what? That electricity is produced by burning fossil fuels which ultimately results in more emissions and eventually contributes to climate change and global warming.  

Isn’t it easy to notice? The aforementioned example was just one of the countless instances of our fight against climate change using global warming. How ironic! 

What we are doing now is essentially giving birth to a vicious circle where we are harming our environment to fight a problem that we ourselves caused in the first place. 

We are fighting crises that are the result of our own actions and we are repeatedly causing harm to our environment while trying to avert the crises.  

What’s the point of this writing, you ask? It’s just to remind us that a problem cannot and should not be solved by creating another problem. Problems require solutions, and solutions need proper research and action.  

I am no scientist or academician, but at least I know for sure that there are already tested and proven solutions to the problems we have been facing nowadays regarding climate change or global warming. These issues are nothing new, researchers have been working on these issues for decades now. All we need to do now is think about these a bit more seriously because we are running out of time.
